SPOKANE --- Finnish cello metal band, APOCALYPTICA, released their epic debut album, “Plays Metallica by Four Cellos,” in 1996 and changed the landscape of heavy metal music forever. Electric cellos played by the Helsinki rockers provided a surprising new interpretation of the hits of the popular American metal band, Metallica.
Their tour arrives in Spokane on May 7th for a concert at Martin Woldson Theater at The Fox at 7:30 p.m. APOCALYPTICA will perform “Plays Metallica by Four Cellos” from start to finish, as well as additional Metallica hits.
The tour celebrates the 20th anniversary of their first album. The group remastered and re-released it with three bonus tracks of new, never-before-released recordings of Metallica’s “Battery,” “Nothing Else Matters,” and “Seek and Destroy.”
Since they formed in 1993, the orchestral rock band APOCALYPTICA has released eight albums featuring numerous cello-based instrumentals along with vocal-based songs. Whatever styles they’ve explored, from atmospheric interludes, to fast, battering rhythms, the music of APOCALYPTICA has been gripping, dynamic and full of melody.
The band is composed of classically trained cellists Eicca Toppinen, Paavo Lötjönen and Perttu Kivilaakso, all of who are graduates of Helsinki’s Sibelius Academy, and drummer Mikko Sirén.
