SPOKANE —FOX PRESENTS two of the country’s enduring mainstays of political humor in Spring 2018 at Martin Woldson Theater at The Fox: The Capitol Steps comedy troupe performs one show of their signature song parodies and satirical skits on March 15 at 7:30 p.m., and stand-up comedian Dennis Miller, famous for his role as “Saturday Night Live’s” anchorman on Weekend Update, plus his biting social and political satire, performs one show on April 6 at 8:00 p.m.

The Capitol Steps have recorded more than 30 albums, including their latest, “Orange is the New Barack.”  http://www.capsteps.com  The group started in 1981 when staffers for Senator Charles Percy were planning entertainment for a Christmas party. They dug into the headlines of the day, and created song take-offs and comedic skits that conveyed a fresh brand of bi-partisan political humor. In the past 35 years, many of the more than two dozen cast members have had day jobs on Capitol Hill, and, all together, the performers have worked in a total of 18 Congressional offices and represent 62 years of collective House and Senate staff experience. The Capitol Steps have been featured on NBC, CBS, ABC and PBS, and are heard twice a year on National Public Radio with their “Politics Takes a Holiday” radio specials.

Dennis Miller, two-time Emmy Award winner for his comedy specials, and number 21 on Comedy Central’s list, “100 Greatest Comedians of All Time,” got his start as a stand-up comedian in his hometown of Pittsburgh, and made it to the big time when he was discovered by “Saturday Night Live” (SNL) producer Lorne Michaels, who saw his act in L.A.’s The Comedy Store, and invited him to join the cast. After six seasons as the anchorman of SNL’s popular Weekend Update sketch, Miller launched his own late-night TV talk show, “The Dennis Miller Show,” was a New York Times best-selling author, and hosted a variety of TV and radio talk shows on HBO and CNBC, among others. Nothing is safe from Miller’s comic rants, which have been described as “sarcasm infused with obscure pop culture references.”

With holiday gift-giving ahead, tickets go on sale for these two political comedy events on Thursday, November 9 at 12:01 a.m.
